ATLANTICVILLE - An Island Memoir
ON A BARRIER ISLAND protecting Charleston, South Carolina, lies a place known as Sullivan's Island--a sun-drenched strip of sand with a history as deep and dramatic as the Atlantic itself.
In this poetic memoir, Atlanticville, Stephaney Oberon captivates with short stories, letters, and poems that weave themselves into a larger portrait of island life. She captures the island's changing seasons, its night skies flickering with lighthouse lights, and the quiet magic that lives in all things -- from the tiny bloom of the confederate jasmine, to the vast and endless sea.
At the gateway to Charleston Harbor, follow a journey of love, loss, and finding home on an island whose stories are uniquely hers. And if you allow it, they can become your own.
Thoughts from Island Characters
"This is a secret locket of a book. Pry it open and glide on a magic carpet into the mists of a low country sea island Brigadoon. Stephaney Oberon is a dreamweaver; a true Sullivan's Island Siren. Her writing style serves as a lure to the reader, drawing us into her stories not as spectator, but as wild-hearted willing participant, lost on an island so charming it persuaded even the pensive Edgar Allen Poe to linger it its light." -Willi Jones

About the Whelk - Oberon Press
Whelks are like fairytale shells. They've inspired wonder, art, and storytelling for centuries. They are the shells a princess would use to make a crown, and their spiral shape, when held to an ear, can recreate the magical sound of the ocean. Whelks lay their eggs in strings of disc-shaped capsules; when washed ashore, they are known as mermaid's necklaces. And while most shells lose their allure when they are broken, a whelk is even more beautiful when its outer shell is chipped away and its inner pink swirl is revealed. It is, in every way, the spirit of Oberon Press.
